Oakville Taekwondo Academy is family owned and operated by husband and wife team Mr. Walter Lo and Mrs. Kim Lo; both certified Black Belts by the Kukkiwon. Mr. Lo is a Kukkiwon licensed International Master Instructor with The World Taekwondo Federation. A student of Chinese martial arts in the 1970’s Mr. Lo went on to earn his Black Belt in Kempo Karate before pursuing the Korean martial arts.

In 1985, Mr. Lo joined Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo a lineage of Tang Soo Do, under the elite Grand Master Hong-Lye Ooi. Some of Ooi’s former Black Belt competitors were members of the Canadian national team; additionally over 20 of Ooi’s former U.K. students were successful British and European national champions’.

In 1987, Mr. Lo graduated as one of Grand Master Ooi’s first Black Belt recipients in Canada. Mr. Lo remained as a student and assistant instructor for Ooi until 2001. Subsequently Mr. Lo held a teaching position as a senior instructor for Grand Master Felix Ayensu. Ayensu, a former Olympian and competitor in five separate World Taekwondo Championships is also a recipient of the North American Master Instructor of the Year Award.

Mr. Lo was privileged to have trained with martial artists and National Champion competitors both locally and from abroad, gaining knowledge in Chinese martial arts, Karate, Taekwondo, Tang Soo Do and Hapkido. Mr. Lo acknowledges due respect for his predecessors whom inspired him with an attitude and desire to self improve, to put forth excitement and charisma for martial arts and to apply his extensive technical knowledge, teaching experience, professionalism and leadership skills towards the modern sport of Taekwondo and in keeping with the traditional tenets of the martial arts.
